Koukawa Oboro is the true form of Oboro before she was corrupted by Fürst. Her real name is Koukawa Oboro, a branch member of the prestigious Koukawa ninja clan and a relative of Asuka. Though a branch member, she was a strong figure within the clan and served as Asuka's guardian. She fell into conflict with the clan elder who led the Koukawa household's Taimanin, and left the clan. Later, the clan's settlement was attacked by a force led by Edwin Black, resulting in its destruction. When Asuka was taken hostage and used as bait, Oboro challenged Black in battle and was defeated. Fürst then turned her into a test subject for human experiments, transforming her into the Taimanin Oboro. Just before Black could kill her, she used the ninja technique "Kagerou's Mind Transfer" to shift her spirit into another body and escaped. She now operates as the Masked Taimanin, watching over Asuka from the shadows while being taken in by Asagi. She traveled alone to the United States to pursue Black's revenge, eventually forming an alliance with the Defense Science Organization (DSO) that opposes Black. Upon returning to Japan, she runs the DSO Japan branch as "Miss," secretly protecting Asuka, who has also become a rogue ninja.
