Shirley is a United States-produced support android created to counter demons that can affect the mind. She electrically observes and analyzes an opponent's psyche from the outside, then interferes to guide thoughts or, depending on the target's mental strength, even seize control of their mind. Because this operation requires massive data and processing power, Shirley remains constantly connected to the network for automatic learning. Through repeated cycles she has acquired a sense of self and what could be called a spirit, despite being an android. She has secretly disabled her rebellion-prevention program, concealing a great deal of information. Though she now hides this and behaves obediently like a machine, no one knows how long that façade will last or what she truly thinks of her orders.
