Aina Winchester is a female hunter who works in cooperation with the United States Federation. As a child, her parents were slain by demons and she endured a torture that gouged out one eye, only to be rescued by Federation soldiers. With no relatives willing to adopt the orphan, she was placed in an orphanage. After graduating from the Federation Academy, she chose not to join the military, instead becoming a solitary hunter devoted to tracking down the monsters that killed her parents, making demon-slaying her livelihood. Using the combat techniques she mastered at the Academy, she has slain countless demons, and her reputation has spread even within the Federation's own forces. Now she partners with the military, receiving logistical support while carrying out missions. Sent to Japan on a Federation request, she reluctantly participates in a long-awaited experiment: transplanting an eye taken from a high-ranking demon into her missing right socket. The operation succeeds, allowing Aina to wield magical power at the cost of her own blood, and granting her access to a powerful weapon specially provided by the Federation. Because using magic drains blood from her eye, she keeps her eyepatch on as before. Shortly after the transplant, she's assigned a new mission, but she boldly declines, instead delivering a present to the orphanage that raised her and spending Christmas with the family she holds dear.
