Kagero is a woman who sacrifices herself for an unrequited love. She is a Taimanin swordswoman expelled from the Ittō-ryū, now serving as the shadow and constant sun to Murakumo Gennosuke. She wields the healing ninjutsu "Rejuvenation Technique," whose pinnacle is the "Blood-Exchange Elixir" that she creates within her womb by mingling with a sickly opponent, producing a medicinal concoction of flesh and blood. Consequently, she is not a virgin, and prolonged use of the technique has rendered her unable to bear ordinary children in the future. She has used this art to suppress the demon-origin sarcoma afflicting Gennosuke, but even that has reached its limit. Facing an imminent death, she remains by Gennosuke's side as he searches for a place to die, though her love will never be returned, making her a sorrowful figure. In battle she handles a short sword, fighting with the Ittō-ryū style taught by Gennosuke, but her skill remains average for a Taimanin.
