She is a former Taimanin from a world dominated by the dimensional invader Brain Flayer. In her Taimanin days, she was the captain of the elite unit known as the Kujikyu. She is a swordsman who has inherited the anti-demon sword technique, Onmyo Nenryu, from the Onmyo mystics. She has a long-standing rivalry with Akiyama Rinko, another anti-demon swordsman who wields the Ittoryu style, and is affectionately known as "Azusa-ne" by Rinko.
