She is a Taimanin of the Kagomori family, said to possess a flower spirit at the origin of blood. In a lineage where, unless special circumstances intervene, only women are born, the head of the house has always been female. The matriarch is chosen first by the color, taste and richness of the fruit she bears, then by the strength and love of the husbands whose power fuels her, and finally by their number. Zakuro has nine husbands—few for a Kagomori—but their strength, affection, and the dense red fruit they produce earned her the seat. The Kagomori's true power lies in the fruit rather than the flower; once they were fruit-guardians using fruit-escape, but as ages passed and they mingled with humanity, maintaining that power became difficult, so they now achieve fruit-escape by channeling flower techniques. The house offers "palace-leasing" and related secret arts to keep bloodlines from breaking, and those arts also boost her own strength. In battle she excels at supporting allies and poisoning foes with fruit, though she can also fight with a short sword, kunai, or bare hands.
