She is a freelance "Mediator" respected even by high-ranking demons in the Demon Realm. Notable is her magic: she activates it by placing specially forged shackles, carved from rare Demon Realm ores, onto anyone who has taken a "Pledge." The shackles disappear into the target's body, leaving a bruise-like mark until the pledge is fulfilled. The shackles cannot be removed physically; they can only be taken off by fulfilling the pledge. Even Arcela cannot remove a shackle she has placed. Breaking a pledge causes the shackles to gnaw at the flesh, exacting a penalty proportional to the pledge's weight. Even gods cannot escape the shackles and their price—this is a powerful magic, but the pledge must be made of the target's own free will, and the shackles must be meticulously crafted in proportion to the pledge's weight. Arcela herself cannot become the subject of a pledge. Because of this powerful magic, she is valued as a mediator for demons who prefer force, helping them forge trustworthy contracts through mutual pledges. In her line of work she never gets deeply involved with any faction or individual, but she has a friendly personality and will socialize with any race for a brief encounter. She is constantly busy, flying between the Demon Realm and the Human Realm, and is highly capable at work, though her private life is a disaster.
