Soma Narumi is a Taimanin who uses the insect escape technique. By emitting a special pheromone, she can control insects, using them for a wide range of tasks from combat to scouting. While the pheromone is less effective on demon insects native to the Demon Realm, she has managed to capture and domesticate some, successfully commanding a few. She possesses extensive knowledge of insects and excels at creating poisons and medicines from them; because she keeps many dangerous insects, she lives in a secluded area away from the city. In hand-to-hand combat, she can hold her own against average demons, but her insect-based ninjutsu often frightens fellow Taimanin, and junior partners who team up with her sometimes develop trauma after witnessing demon insects tearing enemies apart. However, she is confident and proud of her abilities, carrying herself with poise. Her sadistic enjoyment of such scenes and hedonistic streak keep rumors about her circulating among men, yet no one seems able to satisfy her particular tastes, and she appears to have no steady partner. Previously, she had reluctantly dressed up as a cheerleader for the new student welcoming event, and although the students were initially intimidated by her, the administration considered it a success. As a result, she was asked to dress up as a shrine maiden for the New Year's event, which she initially refused but eventually accepted after being offered various perks and a bonus.
