She is a Taimanin, a half-vampire who lives as a demon-hunter, an outlier. She received swordsmanship instruction from her grandfather, the Fuuma Eight-General Shinganji Gen-an, and was once expected to inherit his position. However, when the Fuuma clan fell from grace due to a rebellion, Kurenai left the Fuuma village and operated independently from the infamous night-city Senzaki. Currently she serves as the de-facto leader of the Nomads in place of her missing father Edwin Black, fighting for the "justice" she believes in.
